The Game Components |
|
There
are two types of game components in Strike-A-Light - Discs and Lasers.
Discs are represented as coloured spheres and can be placed on any unoccupied position on the board for any given turn. Discs cannot be moved once placed. Lasers are represented as a cube with radiating arms that are capable of emitting a beam of colour. Lasers may be active or inactive. Lasers can be placed on any unoccupied position on the board for any given turn. All Lasers are active when first placed. Once placed, a Laser can be struck on any following turn. A struck Laser emits a beam of colour from each arm which changes any Disc crossed to the same colour as the beam - effectively capturing (or re-capturing) the opponents Discs. If a beam crosses another active Laser, then the beam is propagated by that Laser in the SAME colour as the beam. Once a Laser has been struck, it becomes inactive. |

At the start of a Strike-A-Light game, each player is allocated a fixed number of Discs and a fixed number of Lasers for each Laser category. There are four Laser catagories: 4-way with two orientations
3-way with eight orientations
2-way with twelve orientations
and 1-way with eight orientations
A Laser can be placed on the board in any one of it's allowed orientations. To complete a game, all Lasers need to be placed on the board and struck. A player may still have unplaced Discs at the conclusion of a game. Unplaced Discs do not contribute to the players final score. For a standard competition two player 8x8 board, each player is assigned the following: Sixteen Discs One 4-way Laser Two 3-way Lasers Two 2-way Lasers Three 1-way Lasers
For a standard competition four player 10x10 board, each player is assigned the following: Twelve Discs One 4-way Laser One 3-way Laser One 2-way Laser Three 1-way Lasers |
