Strike-A-Light
has many customisable game options to enhance the strategy and your
enjoyment of the game. The 'Game Options...' window can be opened
from the 'Game' menu by selecting 'New' and then clicking on the
'Options...' button.
The game options window has four main settings - Board Size, Player
Options, Disable Undo and Play-by-Email.
Board Size
Enter the desired board size of the game you wish to play. Board sizes
from 4x4 to 16x16 are supported in the retail version of Strike-A-Light
Challenge. Board sizes 4x4 and 5x5 only are supported in the free trial version.
Strike-A-Light will automatically set the default number of Discs and Lasers
for each player for the selected board size. Click on the 'Advanced...'
button to change the default game settings.

Settings...
Discs and Lasers
You can customise a Strike-A-Light game by changing the number of Discs
and Lasers available to each player. You can customise on all board
sizes, however the total number of Lasers and Discs cannot exceed the
total number of spaces for the nominated board size. Changing the
ratio of Discs to Lasers can have a dramatic affect on the strategy of the
game.
Disable Undo
Check this option for competition play or to simply remove that Undo
temptation. When checked, this option will disable the Undo/Redo feature
in Strike-A-Light. This setting cannot be changed during a game. To
alter this setting you must start a new game.
Note that the options and settings in the 'Advanced Game Settings' window
can only be changed in the retail version of Strike-A-Light
Challenge.
Player Options
You can nominate which player should move first by selecting the
appropriate player name from the 'First Move by:' list. If you do not
change this setting, then Strike-A-Light will automatically select the first player
based on the outcome of the previous game. The automatic selection is as
follows: the winner of the previous game will always go first unless the
previous game was a draw, in which case the players will take alternate
turns in
going first.
To set up a list of players click on the 'Players...' button. This will
bring up the 'Players' window. This window allows you to define the number
of players for a Strike-A-Light game. In the retail version of Strike-A-Light
Challenge up
to four players can be defined. In the free trial version, only two
players can be defined. To enable a player, check either the Human or
Computer checkbox. If neither box is checked then a player of that colour
will not play. At least two players must be defined. When a computer
player is enabled, the skill 'Level' for that player may also be
altered. Level 1 is a beginner style of play and Level 9 will pose significant
challenges - especially on larger board sizes.
Play By E-mail
Strike-A-Light supports an easy to use play-by-email option for up to four
players. Select the
'Play-by-Email' option if you wish to commence an E-mail game. Play by
Email is only possible if two or more Human players are defined for the
game.
Click on the 'Settings...' button to bring up the 'Play-by-Email
Settings' window. Here you can set up the Email addresses for all players.
When the first move is made, Strike-A-Light will automatically send an Email to the
next opponent with the move attached. The opponent then opens the
attachment to make the next move. This move in turn will be sent back to
you (or on to the next opponent) as an attachment. Players will need to
have a version of Strike-A-Light installed on their computer.
To use the Play-by-Email option you must have access to an incoming
mail server and have the appropriate Email client software
installed. Strike-A-Light sends
Email directly from the game, a sent message will not appear in your Email
program.
If you do not have a Domain Name Service (DNS) defined on your computer system, then
it is recommended you enter the IP address of your Email server in the
'Outgoing mail (SMTP)' field of the 'Play-by-Email Settings' window.
A note on Email Privacy: NetPlay Software does NOT support Spam,
Addware or Spyware. Only game Emails are sent from within Strike-A-Light
and
are sent only to the Email addresses you provide.
